In the spirit of reconciliation and truth, we acknowledge the traditional territories on which WSD2022 and Scenofest celebrates theatre making, the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes people of the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations. The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
As we gather here from places across the country and globe, we honour and recognize the Indigenous people of Turtle Island. We give thanks to the past, present, and future stewards of this land and respect all tribal nation’s sovereignty and right to self-determination.
